Campaign Basics

1. What is the Employee Giving Program?

Legal & General America has teamed-up with America’s Charities for our annual Employee Giving Program that runs from October 17 and October 28, 2022. This two-week campaign provides our employees great flexibility in deciding which charities to support and an opportunity to learn about new charities. Legal & General America will match your donation dollar for dollar.

2. Who is America’s Charities?

America’s Charities, a nonprofit that inspires employees and organizations to support causes they care about, is our employee giving partner. They are acting as our funds management agent, as well as providing general campaign support and distributing employee contributions to the charities selected by employees during the campaign enrollment. The program administrative fee of 6% will be deducted from the charity pledge upon distribution.

Campaign Participation

3. When is the Employee Giving Program being held?

You can participate in our Employee Giving Program from October 17 - October 28, 2022.

4. Are employees required to participate?

No. However, one of our core values is to give back to the community. For that reason, as a company, we support and provide many opportunities for our employees to give back and we encourage you to give back through whichever manner you choose.

5. Who can participate?

Regular full-time and part-time employees can participate.

Ways to Give

6. How do I find charities to support?

Click "Give" and follow the steps until Step 3 where you can choose your favorite charities to support. Click the "Find a charity" button to browse an alphabetical list of charities. You can use the search bar to enter a keyword or specific name of a charity. You can donate to ANY non-profit organization you like - if you don’t see their name listed as an option, feel free to write it in, as long as it is a tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation or association.

7. What payment methods are accepted?

  • Recurring Payroll Contribution: Your gift will be deducted from your paycheck each pay period for one year, beginning January 6, 2023 and ending December 22, 2023. Legal & General America has scheduled 26 pay periods for 2023.
  • NEW! One-time Electronic Check: Select "Electronic Check" as your payment method on the secure Giving Portal and enter your banking information. Your gift will incur an additional $0.50 transaction fee.
  • One-time Paper Check Contribution: Please make your check payable to “America’s Charities Fiscal Agent.” When you receive a confirmation email, print a copy of that email and return it along with your check by mail to:
    America's Charities
14200 Park Meadow Drive, Suite 330S,

    Chantilly, VA 20151

NOTE: To donate using multiple payment methods, please complete all donations for each payment method in separate transactions. For example, if you select “paper check,” then choose all the charities you would like to donate to via paper check and complete the donation process. After you submit your paper check donations, then go back and select the “payroll” payment method, choose the charities you would like to support via payroll, and complete the donation process for those charities.

8. How do I cancel a donation?

To cancel pledges made by check, please contact America’s Charities Fiscal Agent by November 15, 2021. To cancel pledges made by payroll deduction, select the “Give” tab and click on the “Modify Gift” option. A list of your payroll deduction pledges will display. Select the gift you would like to cancel. Select the “Cancel and start over” button on the right side of the screen. This will delete your gift.

Payroll Deduction Benefits

9. Why should I give through payroll deduction when I can send a check directly to the nonprofit(s) of my choice?

Payroll deduction is a much more efficient, economical way for a nonprofit to process the gift. It could take more people to process individual checks from many different donors rather than this more aggregated method. Processing individual donations drives up administrative expenses for the nonprofit organization. Our funds management partner, America’s Charities, helps streamline this processing.

In addition, it is easier to make larger contributions through payroll deduction than by check. You can give as little as $2 per pay period through payroll deduction, which most people will find easier on their budgets than writing a check for more than $100. You can give $260 to one of your favorite charities with just a $5 biweekly deduction.

10. Are my contributions tax deductible?

Yes, your payroll and one-time check contributions are 100 percent deductible. Please consult with your tax advisor for tax advice.

Affordability

11. What if I can’t afford to give enough to make a difference?

Thousands of employees across the country feel the same, but the majority of giving in the U.S. (approximately 72%) is a result of generous individuals like you. If 1,000 employees across the country each donate $2 per pay period ($52 total), that equates to as much as $52,000 in nonprofit support that your gift helps make possible.

No gift is too small. Each gift goes a long way to help many organizations and the community. A $2 contribution each pay period can pay for a grocery delivery organization to provide food to a homebound senior biweekly for three months, often at a critical time such as during illness or recovery from an injury. For $25 per pay period, one nonprofit listed in the campaign is able to provide the basic furnishings a formerly homeless family needs to move from a transitional shelter to permanent housing. In some cases, this means children in the family may have their own beds for the first time. So even small amounts add up, along with others from your co-workers and the broader community.

Distribution of Funds to Charities

12. When will my charities receive my contribution I made through payroll deduction?

Payment to your charities with payroll deduction will begin in March 2022 and continue monthly thereafter.

January: Legal & General America will collect your donation through payroll deduction

February: Legal & General America sends your donation to America’s Charities

13. When will my charities receive my one-time check donation?

Your checks are expected to be cashed in 2022 and paid out no later than the end of January 2023 if America’s Charities has been able to verify the non-profit status of your designated charities.
